MCGRATH WELCOMES CORK CHAMBER REPORT ON IMPORTANCE OF N28 CORK TO RINGASKIDDY ROAD UPGRADE

Local Fianna Fáil T.D. Michael McGrath has given his full backing to the calls by Cork Chamber for the planned upgrade of the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy road scheme to go ahead.

Deputy McGrath welcomed the publication of an economic assessment prepared by Indecon International Economic Consultants on behalf of Cork Chamber which concluded that the proposed upgrade of the N28 road scheme is a key catalyst project that deserves priority status.

‘Cork Chamber is to be congratulated for commissioning this report by top international experts Indecon. The report adds significant weight to the case for the upgrade of the N28 road scheme.

‘The report clearly demonstrates the immense economic benefits of upgrading the N28 road between Cork and Ringaskiddy. As a resident of Carrigaline and as someone who uses the road on a daily basis, I also know that the existing road is not adequate for the traffic volumes using it. The road is extremely dangerous and there have been several tragic accidents on the road in recent years.

‘Now that the NRA has confirmed it is proceeding with the flyovers at the Bandon road and Sarsfield road interchanges, I believe the N28 has to be the next major NRA road scheme in Cork. I believe there is recognition within the NRA and the Department of Transport of the importance of this project, and I will do everything I possibly can to ensure the project goes ahead as soon as possible,’ stated Deputy McGrath.
